New Zealand is renowned for its stunning landscapes, vibrant cities, and unique culture. When I was researching best places to visit and exploring in New Zealand here is what I found.

Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound: I have heard such great reviews for Milford Sound, however we travelled with my kids this time and didn’t get to experience this number 1 place to visit. Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound is known for its dramatic scenery, fjords, waterfalls, and rainforests, they are a must-visit for breathtaking natural beauty.

2. Queenstown: Is the adventure capital of New Zealand, offering activities such as bungee jumping, skydiving, and skiing, along with stunning lake and mountain views. We stayed here and here are the activities we did with our 15 year old and 13 year old:

3. Rotorua: Famous for its geothermal activity, hot springs, geysers, and rich Maori culture. Rotorua is located on New Zealand’s North Island, particularly in the Te Puia and Wai-O-Tapu areas you will find these features. Rotorua is also home to rich Maori traditions, with cultural experiences like traditional hangi feasts and performances. Make sure you visit Rotorua if you are on New Zealand’s North Island.

4. Auckland: New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, is a vibrant metropolis located on the North Island. Known for its diverse culture and stunning natural landscapes, Auckland features a unique blend of urban and outdoor experiences. The city is surrounded by two harbors, offering beautiful waterfront views and numerous water activities. Iconic landmarks include the Sky Tower, Auckland Harbour Bridge, and numerous volcanic cones like Mount Eden. 5. Tongariro National Park: A UNESCO World Heritage site, active volcanoes, and stunning landscapes. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing, located in Tongariro National Park on New Zealand’s North Island, is considered one of the best one-day hikes in the world. The 19.4 km trail traverses diverse and dramatic landscapes, including volcanic craters, emerald lakes, and geothermal areas. Hikers experience stunning views of Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe, often recognized as “Mount Doom” from the Lord of the Rings films. Its mild climate and stunning natural beauty make it a popular destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
